The BIG LIFT Program provides reimbursable grants of up to $30,000 to eligible small businesses located within Brownsville city limits for exterior property improvements. The program operates on

a reimbursement basis, meaning approved applicants must fund their projects upfront and will be reimbursed upon satisfactory project completion and submission of all required documentation.

This program is designed to:

• Improve the visual appearance of commercial buildings throughout
• Support locally owned small businesses with fewer than 20
• Encourage investment in exterior improvements with an immediate, visible
• Extend the economic development benefits of the BIG Program in Historic Downtown into commercial corridors and neighborhoods citywide.

Program Distinction: The BIG LIFT Program is separate from the BIG Property Improvement Grant Program, which is designated for Historic Downtown. Businesses located within the BIG Program boundaries must apply under the BIG Program guidelines. A business may not receive funding from both programs for the same property.
