Texas has never had a trail inducted into the Rails to Trails Conservancy Hall of Fame. This year, Brownsville has a chance to change that.
The Historic Battlefield Trail is one of just three nominees nationwide, and the winner will be decided entirely by public vote.
Built along a former 1904 rail corridor, the trail connects downtown Brownsville to the Palo Alto prairie, where the first battle of the Mexican-American War took place on May 8, 1846.
You can vote as many times as you’d like. Every vote brings Brownsville closer to a first for Texas.

Join BCIC and Moody Clinic for a mural ribbon cutting on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. 🎈
Local artist Rosa Alejandra Zertuche painted the new mural as part of Moody Clinic’s facility upgrades, supported in part by BCIC through its Quality of Life Grants.
Moody Clinic has served Brownsville families since 1952, providing speech, feeding, physical, and occupational therapy for children from birth through age 21.

Today is the last day to apply for the latest Startup Texas Accelerator cohort!
70 founders have started an application, but only 20 have submitted. If your application is still in draft, make sure to complete and submit it by the end of the day on August 10.
This is the final Startup Texas Accelerator cohort funded through BCIC’s EDA grant. Programming is valued at more than $200,000 and includes a full year of incubation at the eBridge Center.
Selected founders will also participate in weekly mentorship with the UTRGV Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., leading up to Demo Day on December 10.
