See if your building qualifies for historic tax credits.

BCIC works with property owners and small businesses bringing Brownsville’s historic buildings back into use. Rehabilitation usually costs more than new construction, and federal and state historic tax credits exist to close that gap. We built this map so you can check a property before you spend money on plans.

Filter by pathway to see which buildings may qualify for the federal and Texas credits together, and which qualify for the Texas credit on its own. District boundaries come from Texas Historical Commission GIS data.

Treat the results as a starting point. Confirm eligibility and project requirements before you begin work, since changes made to a building ahead of approval can disqualify a project.

For a plain-language walkthrough of both credits, what counts as a certified rehabilitation, and the order the applications go in, download the historic tax credit cheat sheet.
