THIS WEEK

BIG LIFT District 2 applications close this Friday, October 9, at 5:00 p.m.

Eligible locally owned small businesses can receive reimbursement for 80% of approved exterior improvement costs, up to $30,000. Applicants should review the guidelines, make sure the project is located in District 2, and confirm they have the capital available to complete the project before reimbursement.

IN THE NEWS

Our Historic Tax Credit Eligibility Map got some airtime last week!

KRGV spoke with BCIC about the new tool, which helps Brownsville property owners check whether a historic building may have a pathway to state or federal rehabilitation tax credits before starting work.

The map currently includes 306 historic properties, with 278 showing a potential pathway to both the state and federal programs.

THANK YOU VENTURE FEST

Texas Venture Fest brought founders, investors, business leaders, students, and entrepreneurship partners together at the eBridge Center last Thursday as part of the statewide event.

This year’s Texas Venture Fest network spanned communities across Texas, with the larger event designed around one idea: founders should be able to connect with support where they are, while still being part of a bigger statewide network.

CANNERY OPENS THURSDAY

A new public space is opening its doors in Brownsville this week.

The Cannery Public Market will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon cutting on Thursday, October 8, at 10:00 a.m. at 1700 E. 6th Street, across from Linear Park.

The event will include remarks from community partners and a guided tour of the new facility.

The Cannery will become the new home of the Brownsville Farmers’ Market, while also bringing together food assistance, cooking and wellness programming, community events, and space for local vendors. The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley will have a permanent presence there, as well as a commercial kitchen in 2027 to support local food entrepreneurs and small businesses.
