Las Ramblas opened in Market Square, Downtown Brownsville, in May 2019, founded by brothers Fabian Limas Jr. and Michael Limas. The name and concept trace back to a 2017 trip the brothers took to Barcelona, where La Rambla, the city’s famous street, became the inspiration for their own corner of downtown Brownsville.
In July 2020, BCIC’s COVID-19 relief program provided Las Ramblas with a loan, support that helped the bar stay open and staffed through the pandemic’s hardest months. The investment paid off. Las Ramblas has since been named a James Beard Foundation semifinalist for Outstanding Bar two years running, in 2023 and 2024, and executive chef Eugenio Uribe was named a semifinalist for Best Chef Texas. The Limas brothers have since expanded their footprint downtown with Boqueron Tapas & Wine and the French restaurant Le RĂªve.
